A long list of gears and equipment
Rowing an Ocean is no mean feat.
One needs motivation, dedication, commitment, to be a dreamer, and some people might say, to be a fool.
One needs a boat, lot of gears, and a great amount of seamanship knowledge.
Total Projected Budget: 182 000 €
Food at Sea
The food is crucial to cross the Atlantic. It will give the power to row, but also bring will be one of the few moment of relax and join. The psychology, the resilience and motivation of an isolated person in an extreme environment rely heavily on the food he will eat. Astronauts even get Chef-made dried food!
Getting food is important, getting good food is game changer for a successful journey.
For the Atlantic crossing, the food embarked in the boat will be defined as following:
85 days of food
60 kcal per kg of bodyweight per day. (4800 kcal for a 80kg rower)
20% of the food must be wet food, the other 80% can be freeze-dried food. These 20% wet food must be kept for emergency purpose, as for instance if the water maker breaks down and the water have to be rationed.
example: assuming 4 meals a day, 85 * 4 = 340 meals to be embarked, of which 68 meals must be wet rations.
