The Oceans: a World to Protect
We have a dream. We all have a dream.
When I was a child, I was dreaming to explore the Space around me. I still do.
I wandered the world on bicycle, I flew to Space… on Earth.
I still have to feel the sea, to cross it, to get some waves on my face. Child, I was exploring while listening to stories from Commandant Cousteau every Sunday afternoon, or reading Jean Louis Etienne expeditions or Gerard d’Aboville adventures. For 20 years, I have been waiting for rowing an Ocean!
Rowing will give me the time to appreciate its uniqueness, to understand its color changes, to get fears and to tame it.
With Atlantic 4800, I am not looking to break a record. I will race against myself, for the Ocean, for the Science and Space.
For the Ocean, as we all need to protect and understand it, if we want that free space not to shrink away. That is why I will row for 2 charities, Polar Pod and 1 Ocean, both aiming to study the Ocean and raise awareness through knowledge.
The aim of the crossing is to raise money for a cause – the exploration at the service of the protection of the Oceans, with help from sponsors and supporters. 10 euro per km?!
Join the row, so some little child, sometime in the future, will keep dreaming of an Ocean to cross.
A major exploration project serving the ocean
1 OCEAN is an international exploration project led by photographer Alexis Rosenfeld with UNESCO in parallel with the United Nations Decade for the Ocean (2021-2030).
3 objectives: to explore, to document the explorations and above all, to transmit knowledge of the Ocean to as many people as possible in order to contribute to "building awareness".
Photography as an awareness tool
Guardian of a fragment of today for eternity, photography is a link between the past and the future; a moment captured in an image, which transports generations in search of knowledge and exploration through the ages.
Whilst photography plays an essential role in raising awareness of the environmental cause in a world in transition, it metamorphoses into a committed art that allows as many people as possible to access knowledge with emotions.
Images are also a valuable tool for scientists, allowing them both to follow the evolution of ecosystems and to share the results of their research.
As a spokesperson for the Ocean, the 1 OCEAN Foundation is committed to exploring, photographing and sharing the secrets of still unknown worlds.

An expedition worthy of Jules Verne
Driven by the circumpolar current, like a satellite around Antarctica, Polar POD will allow the acquisition of data and long-term observations that will be transmitted to researchers, oceanographers, climatologists, biologists; 43 scientific institutions from 12 countries are involved in the project.
Lead by the explorer Jean Louis Etienne, this expedition worthy of Jules Verne, will animate in real time a large international educational project on the Life Sciences of the Earth and the Environment in collaboration with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.
The Polar POD expedition is one of the stamp of the pioneers, a human adventure coupled with a technological challenge, an oceanographic exploration never before carried out which will mark a milestone in the discovery of the oceans.
To support it is to support a unique vision of adventure and scientific exploration.
